Yes, for most of us are poor, and are content with our shitty moniters for now. Personally, I am just thankful that I have even a 1024x768 res moniter because of the shitty old computer I used to have a few years back.

when i bought my new rig my moniter sucked so much dick that it couldnt even run at my graphics card's minimum res. so my dad traded it to one of his friends who just uses it for solitaire and email for a flatscreen moniter (unsure of dimensions). all i know is that it runs on 1280x1024 and i love it

Mine isn't so much money directly... I just don't liek widescreens except for movies and gaming. For other use, I don't really need moar horizontal space, got enough of that. But vertical space, there's never enough and widescreens actually take away a bunch of it compared to traditional 4:3. Since LCDs don't seem to come in 4:3 above 20 inches or so, I'd have to get at least 25-26 inch widescreen to be satisfied with the screen space. And that size of monitor is fucking expensive.
So I settled on a lightly used Electron Blue IV for $200. 1792x 1344, 90Hz refresh no problem (it can even go higher but I liek it where it is now) and the quality for pictures/video kicks the shit out of the average LCD. I'll probably use it till it dies or the 30 inch LCDs drop below 1k monies.
