4Chan died along time ago, 4chan /b/ as we knew it is GONE! This new welcome page marks a new era in fail. 4chan is looking more like gaia each day, it's fail is growing in epic proportions, it's userbase spewing out forced meme's and using old meme's without knowing their origin.
I'm glad I got out of 4chan while I could, 7/420 are the only places left for us oldfags and our classic meme's.

I still don't think the raids (all of them, not just Habbo) are the cancer, but they were a major catalyst in making the cancer malignant. It was actually several catalysts along the way, these are the 3 big ones I know of:
- 4chan's popularity grew even faster after all the raids began and with Internet popularity you have tons of fags coming in with no clue other than they saw something in a blog or whatever. The raids themselves are not really the cancer, but the resulting popularity didn't help.
- b-day was another major catalyst. It came down too hard and scattered a lot of the oldfags that might have kept the cancer in check moar. By the time moot let up on the rules again, the cancer had already grown considerably and many oldfags had their own things to do or moved on.
- The re/b/oot, which suddenly gave hope to the oldfags (and newfags who lurked long enough to understand the difference between win and fail). Instead we got a few days of music and blinking backgrounds and that was it. Many of the remnants still holding out hope finally gave up.
If the re/b/oot had been followed immediately by the more recent changes moot did, things could well have been salvaged. It's next to impossible now short of managing to gather all the oldfags back together and set them to work.

I think if moot would just would just mod some guys who aren't afraid to ban and humiliate faggotry, it might be salvagable.

I don't think this had as much to do with it. At worst it got the common stuff like desu and mudkips spread around. I only encounter a few memes outside of the chans/Pool's Closed.
And honestly, how many of us haven't used the references once in a while? I had lurked for nearly a year and still never figured out the majority of memes, especially the older ones, until I found ED's project. I count even ED's stuff as lurking anyway since it's clear a lot of fags don't even bother with that much research, which would help them a lot.
