GTFO or be moar specific about what you need. As far as I'm concerned, you're looking for info on recipes for the bake-off at your local church. _________________

on the Lucius vs. Serra argument (no score given)
WARNING: WALL OF TEXT
"There was a time on the GameFAQs message boards where
I would post over and over again long arguments about
why I think Serra is nearly always just as good as
Lucius, if not better. Try as a I might, I could not
change the public opinion there, so I gave up.
However, the fact that you said that "Lucius is great
and Serra can easily
become as great." gives me hope that you will actually
listen to my arguments.
"Every time I've used him, he always comes close to
maxing out magic, skill, speed, and resistance."
That almost always happens with Lucius, and that is
why most people believe that Lucius is a good
character, which he is. But his stats are actually
deceptively weak, just look at how low his stat max
caps are. Power at 25, speed at 24, skill at 26. His
resistance at 30 is pretty high, though. But other
than skill, Serra is usually very close to those
numbers Lucius has, about one or two points lower,
usually. Skill Lucius has Serra beat by about 8 points
(I'm using the average max stats FAQ numbers, in case
you didn't know). Moving on to defense, Lucius's worst
nightmare, Serra is slightly better, about as much as
Lucius is better in the mag power, speed, and res. But
it is the luck that Serra completely destroys Lucius
in. On average, Serra will be about 20 points ahead.
So then comes to the question, which is more
important, 8 points of skill or 20 points of luck?
Well, given the formulas, skill will add about 4
points of critical, and more hit rate, which I
consider irrevelant because both have high enough
skill to almost always hit with 100% anyway. 20 points
of luck translates to an extra 20 points of dodge.
Given the con difference (2), it can drop down to 16
points of dodge. So now we have 4 points of critical
versus 16 points of dodge. Considering that the weapon
triangle bonus is 16 points, and one cannot really
expect someone with a 4% chance of critical to
critical at the right moment, we can say that the 20
points of luck is slightly more useful than the 8
points of skill.
Then, do the extra 20 points of luck make up for being
one or two points behind in everything else? Serra is
a master at dodging with her luck, and yet she has
more defense than Lucius. Lucius needs the dodging the
most because his defense is so low. His higher speed
could make up for this, except his speed maxes at the
very low 24. Serra and Lucius usually have the same
speed anyway. So what happens with Lucius is that he
is a mediocre dodger with extremely lacking defense,
making him very fragile to use. Serra can dodge quite
well, and has slightly better defense, but is a few
points behind in the other stats.
At this point the two would be about even, then we
look at what I consider to be Lucius's biggest weak
point: His low stat caps. He will almost always hit
the caps, but will never be able to go any further.
The only stats that don't max out are his luck and
defense, which are so low that a few points either way
mean almost nothing. Serra, meanwhile, has lots of
potential, as her stat caps are higher than Lucius. So
what happens is Serra becomes more of a gamble, she
can go either way, which I think makes her a much
more interesting character to use.
So now I conclude that the end decision is up to
personal preference. Lucius will be pretty much
unaffected by the RNG, as he will turn out about the
same every time. Serra has more potential but can also
swing the other way. But no matter what, both Serra
and Lucius fare very well during the later chapters
and are both extremely good bishops.
And one last point, both are about equal in leveling,
I think. Lucius has a great early game with all those
shamans running around, but Serra benefits greatly
from Lyn's tutorial (got her to around level 10
unpremoted from the tutorial alone) if you plan ahead.
I find it quite strange that I have no problem
leveling Serra but never really feel up to leveling
Nino... whatever, I'm just weird.
Anyways, if you actually read this long pointless rant
that you most likely already knew anyway, props to
you. If you needed the time for something else, well
then I understand. I'm just pointing out that Serra is
much closer to Lucius than one might think. Of course
it is all personal preference so if you like Lucius
better then by all means like Lucius better. And thus,
my long mindless drivel is finished. Again, wonderful
job on the FAQ. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some
waiting for E3 2k4 to do... hopefully you're just as
excited about the newly announced Fire Emblem GC as I
am, as well as other major secrets to be revealed at
E3.
That should tell you who is the better one to invest in leveling up. _________________
