Journalspace was apparently a blog site with a really stupid IT guy. The entire site was stored on two hard drives in RAID 1 configuration. RAID 1 duplicates the data from one drive onto a second drive when any changes occur; that way you can still operate even if one of the drives die. The problem is many people don't realize (or are too lazy) that any form of RAID is not a backup solution. It helps protect against hardware failure but nothing else.
Their IT guy went emo (much like acne) and deleted the entire database, which was then mirrored onto the second drive so no working copy of the database remained active. They never did offline/offsite backups over the 6 years the site was running so nothing could be recovered that way. And they blocked Internet Archive so it never archived the blogs. I doubt more than a few users ever made their own backups either. The only remnants are some Google caches for blogs set as public. Everyone else is just plain fucked.

I'm not sure there's a lot left to do. They've had their shitty poetry, ramblings and other garbage from as much as 6 years erased from existence, their community all but destroyed and the site's owner is simply giving up and selling off what remains.
