You can roll with what you have there, actually. It's pretty damn good.
A trek reference would just give him ammo to call us nerds, though. So if you want to actually scare him, you might want to just barely touch on Trek. Point it out as a reference only once, just in case he has seen it.
For the majority of the speech, just keep on topic about the hivemind philosophy.
Considering it happens in nature with insects and such, it isn't a completely nerd subject.
You can write the speech. You have talent.
And I'm too fucking lazy right now.
