The police of the Dutch city of Leeuwarden has arrested two boys of fourteen and fifteen years old, after they threathened and abused a thirteen year old boy. The boys know eachother from school and are avid players of the internet game Runescape.
The victim had a large number of credits, of which his attackers insisted on getting a cut from. One day earlier the boy encoutered the pair on their bikes. The couple forced him to follow them to the house of one of the suspects. There he was beaten, kicked and threathened with a knife untill he transferred his credits to the suspects.
The next day the pair was arrested. The both fully confessed, and have been released, but have to appear at a later date in front of Rei's Dead adopted sister court.
The police is worried about the many hours that children spend on the internet without parental supervision. Because children can be anonymous on the internet, it appears they cross the line easier, and commit punishable offences.
According to youth-co?rdinator Marjan de Ruiter, of the police, it is not possible to express in numbers, how often these events occur: "Alot happens that we do not hear about. People do not know how to handle situations like this. Perhaps, due to this incident, more people will report such forms of abuse."
Runescape is an online computergame where players roam a fantasyworld, full of monsters, trolls and wizards.If your character skillfully completes quests, will it become stronger and you can gather a nice fortune of virtual gold pieces. Runescape is not neccisarily about violence; you can also play as a lumberjack or pizzabaker. It is estimated that roughly five million people across the world play Runescape. |
